This has to be one of my favourite photography pastimes at the moment. I just love the creativity behind creating images using light sources and burning steel wool coupled with the unpredictability. One is never quite sure how the final image will turn out. I find it best to start off with an idea in ones minds eye of what you are wanting to create and then find the subjects matter and try a variety of light sources to see how your image can be built. Sometimes i’ll take about 10 -15 test shots each one building on the previous one to create my final image.
I love that I’m challenged in the type of photography with using long shutter speeds and various apertures to create often ethereal images.
I hope you enjoy the images that follow showing some of my recent Painting with Light. All images created here have been done in and around Johannesburg, Gauteng.
